PGE Landscaping commitment to Bird Nesting Conservation
At PGE Landscaping, we take pride in not only enhancing the beauty of outdoor spaces but also in our commitment to environmental stewardship. As landscaping contractors, we recognise the importance of preserving wildlife habitats, particularly during the crucial ‘Bird Nesting Season,’ officially observed from February to August.
Understanding the sensitivity of this period, our approach aligns with the recommendations that vegetation works, including tree or hedge cutting, should ideally be scheduled outside of the nesting season. However, we acknowledge that nesting may occur before or extend beyond the specified dates, varying across species. The peak activity for nesting birds typically spans from 1st March to 31st July.
As responsible contractors, we uphold the principles of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and the European Habitats Directive 1992/Nesting Birds Directive. These regulations guide us to avoid any impact on nesting birds and to conduct our operations with the utmost care and consideration.
When circumstances necessitate tree or vegetation clearance during the nesting season, we conduct pre-works surveys, facilitated by suitably competent personnel. Our guiding principle is to assume that birds may be nesting in trees, obligating us to assess, record, and confirm that our activities do not disturb actively nesting birds.
Ground vegetation, often overlooked in typical tree work, demands additional caution. We recognise the significance of ground nesting birds and implement heightened care and controls during access and egress to prevent disturbance or damage to nesting sites.
In our experience, most clients share our commitment to conservation, understanding the need to put works on hold until the nesting season concludes. On larger scale developments, responsible clients are well-informed about legislative requirements and actively support contractors in compliance.
At PGE Landscaping, our landscaping services are not just about creating visually stunning environments but also about contributing to the preservation of biodiversity. Partner with us for landscaping solutions that go beyond aesthetics and align with a shared commitment to the environment.
